Open to Currently Enrolled LAEP Students
These prizes and awards are open to currently enrolled LAEP students only.
ASLA CERTIFICATE OF HONOR & ASLA CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
These awards are given to students who have achieved a sustained level of outstanding performance in their studies and who show the promise of making significant contributions to the profession. Faculty nominates students in their final year (graduates and under-graduates) for an exhibition of work reviewed by faculty and representatives from ASLA Northern California Chapter. Faculty nominations are made in late February and jury is usually held in late March.
THOMAS CHURCH AWARD
Outstanding creative achievement in design based on a specific design competition. First, Second and Third Prizes have a cash award, typically in the range of $1000 to $2000. A jury comprised of professionals and faculty members selects recipients. Information will be available at the beginning of Spring Semester. Com-petition deadline is in early March.
SAN FRANCISCO GARDEN COMPETITION
This is a design competition funded annually by the San Francisco Garden Club and is open to both under-graduate and graduate students. Usually, the garden belongs to one of the Garden Club members. Typically, there is a first and second prize. Total prize amount is $2000 per year. A jury of San Francisco Garden Club members selects recipients. Information will be available in early October and the competition deadline will be late November or early December.
STEPHEN LENCI AWARD
This award is given to support students following a discipline of study bridging architecture and landscape architecture with an emphasis on history. Award is open to both Architecture and Landscape Architecture graduate students. The award amount is approximately $600. Recipients are selected by a jury comprised of Architecture and Landscape Archi-tecture faculty members. Information will be available in early February and the competition deadline is in late February.
SCOTT TRAVELING FELLOWSHIP
This award was set up Geraldine Knight Scott in order to provide funds for significant travel after graduation. Students must submit detailed travel objectives in an essay form, a budget and a portfolio of design or other academic work. This award is for undergraduate and graduate students in their final year. Awards are typically in the range of $7500 - $10,000. The recipients are selected by the Scott Traveling Fellowship Committee that is comprised of two LAEP faculty members, one planning faculty member and one alumni. Information is available in late November. Deadline is April 1.
H. LELAND VAUGHAN AWARD
This award is given for student leadership and participation in departmental activities. Students must submit an essay, which describes their participation in departmental activities, a design project and have a minimum 3.3 GPA in Landscape Architecture courses. Award amount is approximately $1000. Recipients are selected by the Prizes and Awards Committee. Information is available in early March and the deadline is in early April.
DEPARTMENTAL CITATION
This award is given for excellence in coursework to a graduating senior with a GPA of at least 3.5. Recipients are selected by faculty ballot. The award announcement is made in early April.
EISNER PRIZE
This is an annual award for outstanding creative achievement. Students
submit class projects to the Departmental Prizes and Awards Committee
who select the winner. Projects may include work from a design or
environmental planning studio as well as papers on projects from
other classes. The winner receives a cash award of $2000. Information
is available in early February and completion deadline is in early
March.
CED ALUMNI ASSOC. AWARD
This award is given for professional promise and in recognition of accomplishments, skills and talent that demonstrate great potential for future contributions to the environmental design profession. Students submit one project from class work. Competition is open to seniors and graduate students in their final year. A jury comprised of alumni and faculty members will select the recipients in early May.
OUTSTANDING GSI AWARD
This award is given to the student who receives the highest numerical ranking on the GSI student evaluations. The Student Affairs Officer calculates numerical ranking and the winner is ratified by the Prizes and Awards Committee. The award is announced in late March.
