LA121 Teaching Assistant
The appointee will be for (25%) time teaching assistant for LA 121 - - Landscape Construction, a class expected to have approximately 45 students. It is important that the appointee has good skills at producing basic design drawings, understands landscape dimensions and has familiarity with construction detailing. The TA will be responsible, under my supervision, for marking class assignments and will attend the two 1 1/2 hour lectures each week and will be responsible for setting up slide projectors for the lectures and, on some occasions, help assemble slides for the lecture. They will also be responsible for bringing samples of construction materials from the materials storage cabinet in Wurster Hall and reference texts from my office in Wheeler Hall to class. They will help collect additional samples and slide images as well as coordinate handouts and field trips. Part of the slide and handout preparation will happen in January before classes begin.
The TA will set regular office hours for 2 hours per week to be available for desk critiques. On three to five occasions during the semester, these office hours will be utilized for one of two" section" meetings to review work with students.
The position will average approximately 10 hours per week over the 5 months (Jan. - May) of the semester although some key weeks during the semester will require more time for grading while the weeks in January and May will require less than the 10 hours/week.
