Robert Twiss is a Professor in the Graduate School and maintains
a private professional practice as a consultant in the field
of Environmental Planning. He currently serves as a member
of the Science Panel for review of timber-harvest impacts
on water quality for the North Coast Regional Water Quality
Control Board; as Co-Chair of the Independent Science Board
for the CALFED Ecosystem Restoration Program; as Principal
Investigator for the Research Program in Environmental Planning
and Geographic Information Systems (REGIS); as Consultant
to the Office of the California Attorney General on planning
and land regulation in the Lake Tahoe Basin and Sierra Nevada;
and as Founder and President of Geostage Inc. Professor Twiss
has worked for local, regional, state, and federal agencies,
for foreign governments and institutions, and for the United
Nations. From 1996 to 1999, he was a faculty participant in
the UC Berkeley Digital Library Project, developing Geographic
Information support for online library services. He holds
Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from the School of Natural Resources
at the University of Michigan (1962) and an A.B. from San
Jose State University (1955). Professor Twiss served in the
U.S. Air Force as a tactical fighter pilot and communications
officer (1956-58).
