As for the fire training, don't sweat the equipment. We can loan the critical pieces except for boots. Once folks have completed the week they'll have a much better idea of what and where to get gear. There are some really expensive places that will sell you mediocre gear. We have had good luck with Trans-con Mfg. http://www.transconmfg.com
Your folks will need to bring boots:
Leather, min 6" tall (measured from the bottom of the heel to the top of the collar), Vibram soled, lace-up (no zippers or velcro).
